voice 13: melancholy.

They ask me why?
I don’t know.
They ask me how?
I don’t know.

Maybe I’m perpetual,
maybe I’m a filler.
Maybe it’s the flesh,
maybe it’s the blood.

I can cause pain,
the kind that makes your heart bleed within.
I can cause pain,
the kind that makes you feed your silence.

You might think I’ve left,
only to find me sitting on your head.
You might think I’ve a reason,
only to realize that I come with no engagements.

I am the hand that suffocates you,
I am melancholy.

Written as a part of the A to Z challenge, details about which can be read here.

This is the installment to the theme I revealed here.

Is it just me, or poetry writing is more eloquent when you are depressed? Let’s talk about turning melancholy to our favor today!

Take care

  1. Melancholy – it strikes almost all of us from time to time, it seems. I call it my walking/thinking through treacle moments. You’ve captured it here beautifully through your words.

  2. Oh wow, I don’t know if depression makes poetry more eloquent, but I do know that making something beautiful out of the sadness is so important and necessary. You did a wonderful job with this poem 🙂

A glass of whiskey for your perspective?!
